Media/ PR Program
400 metre runner and Olympic silver medalist John Steffensen employed MCS to raise his profile in the lead-up to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
MCS prepared and distributed media releases on John’s training updates, race results and public appearances, and sourced radio, television and press opportunities.
In the months prior to the Commonwealth Games MCS arranged radio interviews on stations including Melbourne’s SEN, 3AW and Triple M, Perth’s 6PR, 927 Sport and New South Wales’ 2UE, Radio 2, ABC Radio and 2KY.
MCS arranged television appearances for John on Channel Nine’s ‘Today Show’ and Ten’s ‘9am with David and Kim’ and ABC’s ‘7.30 Report’ and secured magazine interviews with popular publications such as Zoo Weekly, New Idea and Virgin Blue’s in-flight ‘Voyeur’ magazine.
Prior to the Commonwealth Games MCS arranged a media activity with John in his hometown of Perth. John’s visit with young members of his former little athletics club was covered by both metro WA newspapers, regional newspapers and Channels Seven and Ten.
John’s gold medal win at the 2006 Commonwealth Games propelled him into athletic stardom and he featured on the front page of Melbourne’s ‘Herald Sun’ and ‘Age’ newspapers. Directly after his win, MCS liaised with national media outlets in supplying images and information, and fielded all requests for interviews.
